Archeologia sperimentale al CAM
Â
On the nearly 4,000 square meters in front of CAM’s structure on the grounds of the necropolis of Manicalunga-Timpone Nero, the creation of an area designated for Experimental Archaeology, an educational and experimental center, is currently under way. Its footpath will wind through the necropolis and unfold on an esplanade overlooking the excavations.
Â
A potter’s workshop with a clay pit and a kiln for the firing of ceramic, two areas for the simulation of an excavation, a space for the grinding of cereals and an area showing some types of burials will be reconstructed. The objective of this initiative is to integrate the study of archaeological findings while proposing the reconstruction of the artifacts, the hypothesizing of antique techniques and their use. Evidence may therefore be developed for demonstrating the use of the artifacts, which will then be brought back to the use for which they were originally created.
Â
Through experimental archeology, archaeological traces will be reproduced and returned to their operational dimension, an essential means of documenting ancient technologies, while stimulating the curiosity of visitors.
