CAM’s setting

The area in which the Campus Archaeological Museum is located lies within a vast archaeological area known as Manicalunga - Timpone Nero. In the past, excavations were conducted which unearthed numerous tombs and many important archaeological findings from the great necropolis surrounding the urban Selinuntian settlement.

Surveys, photo interpretation and excavation studies, partially conducted in the early sixties, have demonstrated the opportunity that this area offers and could, or rather, should be scientifically examined.

This would permit the revelation of important archaeological findings, further enriching the already existing patrimony who size (1300 artifacts preserved in the Mormino Museum of the Foundation bearing the same name and belonging to the Banco di Sicilia, and in the A. Salinas Archaeological Museum of Palermo), demonstrates the worthiness of such an intervention.
